Integrating Life Skills
Erasmus ‘KATEIKA: piloting home economics in EU school curricula’ project took off with a great start. Its first learning teaching and training activities took place in Braga the northern region of Portugal. Partner countries from Italy and Turkiye went to Externato Paulo VI to undergo the project workshops. The school is a Special Educational Institution founded in 1970, and its headquarters is located in Braga. After a warm welcome with a dance from the Portuguese students, ice breaking activities were held for teachers and students to meet and greet with one another.
After lunch, students and teachers participated in a composting workshop to bring awareness of how to recycle food waste and to take care of our environment.
Day 2 continued with engaging workshops. Students started the workshops with a sewing activity. They recycled their old t-shirts into new by adding unique designs and using their creativity.
After lunch students and teachers participated in a cooking workshop where they were asked to plan and prepare a healthy menu. Students shopped for the ingredients at the local supermarket, prepared the meal then shared the healthy meal with their friends and teachers.
Day 3 activities allowed students to become familiar with the history and culture of Braga. Students and teachers participated in a digital activity ‘peddy-paper’ with the app goosechase. The activity involved completing different missions by taking photos and videos of different historical sites and monuments of Braga city.
After lunch we visited Viana do Castelo to take a tour of the city and learn about its history. The views were breathtaking
The project ended with a farewell ceremony for all students and teachers for their participation in the activities. Each individual received a certificate and ended the project by watching highlights of the week. It was a week filled with interesting workshops, new formed friendships and great hospitality by our Portuguese partners.
